Built around 1955 the Collyweston explosives storage area (ESA) was a munitions storage site for the neighbouring RAF Wittering. It homed mainly four types of weapons being 1000lb high explosive bombs, 68 mm SNEB rocket, BL755 cluster bombs and high explosive ordnance from RAF (USAF) Lakenheath. The site was decommissioned in 1996 and has obviously been well visited over the years given the rubbish, graffiti and vandalism that is present. It has been home to a number of illegal raves over the years with thousands of revellers turning up and taking over the site for weekends at a time.
