During the cold war, RAF Wyton was home to Bomber Command’s strategic photographic reconnaissance squadron. The photographic factory was built in the 1950s as a separate compound to the south of the airfield and was its job was to process the masses of film taken from the planes on an industrial scale. Processing photographs for over 40 years it closed it’s doors in the 1990s when technology had moved onto the digital era. The buildings were sold off for redevelopment, however, nothing ever happened with them and the photographic factory has stood derelict ever since.
