Are you ready to fast track your photography learning and finally master your camera by spending a day with a professional photographer who will share with you all the tricks of the trade?
Day One
Your camera in an auto mode is fairly dumb, it doesn’t really know what is happening in front of it so we shouldn’t really expect it to know the best settings to use in order to ensure its the correct exposure and entirely in focus. When you start taking control over your camera and putting in your own settings like shutter speed, aperture and ISO, your images not only become far more consistent, but you will also notice a considerable improvement in their quality. Day one is all about teaching you the exposure triangle and how to balance each of the settings so they work together in order to give you the shots you desire.
We’ll also look at other key settings on your camera such as white balance, focus area modes and the different types of shooting modes. When you combine all the this together you’ll accelerate your photography learning in just a single day.
Day Two
Taking a great photograph is 50% technical skill and 50% creative vision, on day two we’ll look at composition, storytelling, lighting and learn how to put together a great looking photograph using tried and tested methods. Once you get your head around the composition techniques used in professional photoshoots, you’ll start to see similar patterns everywhere because quite simply, they work. You’ll never capture good photographs without good lighting so you will learn all about how to best use natural light and also how to add your own lighting to a scene using flashes or consistent lights. Lastly we’ll go through how to edit images using Adobe Lightroom, you’ll learn Paul’s entire editing workflow from start to finish ensuring you are left after 2 days being able to both take great photographs and edit them to really make them shine.

FAQ’s
Do I Need Certain Skills Or Equipment To Attend?
Please bring your camera with a fully charged battery, lenses and any accessories that you use frequently with you. If you could also bring with you a selection of images that you have taken then that would be really helpful to allow us to get an understanding of your current level.
Can You Recommend Camera Equipment For Me Prior To Me Attending?
I get a lot of requests for help with camera equipment recommendations, almost daily in fact and offer a Personalised Photography Equipment Recommendation service which you can find by clicking here.
Recommending a camera and the best lenses to buy really has lots of different factors involved in it which need to be investigated first such as what the equipment will be most used for, budgets, your expectations on image quality, your current level and aspirations, etc. Hence the above service so we can really drill down into finding you the best equipment.
Alternatively, some people attend my courses and borrow a camera from me for the day to do so, we can then incorporate this recommendation as part of the course at no extra cost. The benefit of doing it this way is that I have a lot of cameras and lenses you can try and see the difference between prior to purchasing anything. The downside is your not learning on your own equipment of course, so there are pluses and minuses to doing it both ways, it depends on what you think works best for you.
Are You DBS Checked?

Joseph Moore –
An absolutely excellent 2 days spent with Paul learning how to use my new camera. I’d barely switched the camera on when I first arrived and within 2 days I was shooting in manual mode, using speedlights, editing in Lightroom and producing images I thought it would take me a long, long time to learn how to take. This was a very impressive course indeed.
Sophia Jennings –
I joined Paul in Bristol for an enjoyable 2 days packed full of learning how to use my new camera. I’d tried previously to watch videos to learn about the camera but it felt like they were talking in a foreign language at times. Paul broke everything down so it was really easy to understand and we practiced everything over and over again so it feels like I’ll retain it all and be able to build on it moving forwards. I thought learning how to balance aperture, shutter speed and ISO was some sort of dark art prior to Paul’s course, but within just a few hours I was in manual mode with a routine to follow to get to the right answer every time. Paul’s teaching methods really do work and it’s clear he has spent many years not only taking great photographs, but learning how to communicate how to do this to others. This is easily the best investment into my photography I have made, I’ve cut years off of my learning time compared to if I’d have just tried to work all of this out myself.
