FAQ’s
Where will this course take place?
This course will be ran throughout central London. If you live or work centrally I’m happy to run this course at your premises, otherwise we’ll run it on the streets of London giving you every opportunity to get a hands on practical experience.
Do I Need Certain Skills Or Equipment To Attend?
This is a beginners course and as such, no skills are required to attend this course. The only equipment you will need to bring with you is your DSLR or Mirrorless camera and lenses.
Can You Recommend Camera Equipment For Me Prior To Me Attending?
I get a lot of requests for help with camera equipment recommendations, almost daily in fact and offer a Personalised Photography Equipment Recommendation service which you can find by clicking here.
Recommending a camera and the best lenses to buy really has lots of different factors involved in it which need to be investigated first such as what the equipment will be most used for, budgets, your expectations on image quality, your current level and aspirations, etc. Hence the above service so we can really drill down into finding you the best equipment.
Alternatively, some people attend my courses and borrow a camera from me for the day to do so, we can then incorporate this recommendation as part of the course at no extra cost. The benefit of doing it this way is that I have a lot of cameras and lenses you can try and see the difference between prior to purchasing anything. The downside is your not learning on your own equipment of course, so there are pluses and minuses to doing it both ways, it depends on what you think works best for you.

Paul’s 1-2-1 filmmaking course was extremely insightful and gave me the knowledge I needed to start creating better social media and YouTube videos. It feels like after 2 days I made a huge leap in terms of the quality of my videos and my understanding of how to use my camera, I now feel like I know what it is actually capable of. Paul is an excellent teacher and an extremely talented filmmaker, along with being a very nice person to spend 2 days learning from.

We met Paul in Central London following the excellent introductory notes we were sent and was instantly greeted warmly, I knew it was going to be a good course immediately. Paul assessed what we already knew and then on the first day he taught us the fundamentals of how to use our cameras. I was impressed how well he knew how to use the cameras we bought even though he’d never owned them, it’s clear he has a wealth of experience with cameras in general. By the end of day one we were putting our own shutter speed, aperture, ISO and white balance into the cameras and felt like we had accomplished a lot given we’d never really come out of auto before. On day two we looked at audio, lighting, composition and editing, though it felt like Paul would slip in little nuggets of gold almost every 5 minutes, I walked away with so many notes to ensure I didn’t forget things going forwards to compliment the worksheets we were given. I’ve made 2 videos since finishing Paul’s course and I’m pleased to say they are 10 times better than what I was doing before, I’d go as far as to say they are nearly starting to look quite professional. I couldn’t have done it without his excellent teaching, so thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us Paul.

My dream is to become a filmmaker but I simply did not know here to start with it. I came across Paul’s videography and filmmaking course via a recommendation from a colleague at work who had already taken the same course and I decided to book on. Paul’s communication was excellent from the very first moment, he emailed me all the details I’d need for the 2 days and answered all the questions I had.
we met in central London near South Bank and I must admit to being slightly nervous that I knew absolutely nothing. There was no need to worry at all, Paul put me at ease straight away by the end of the first day I had managed to create my first video which I was really proud of! It actually looked really professional, far better than I ever thought I’d be able to do at such an early stage in my learning.
On day 2 we went through audio, lighting, stabilisation and lots of other really helpful information in more detail. The beauty of how Paul teaches is that he explains something to you and then you immediately go out and put it into practice which ensures you really understand it because your putting the ideas and concepts into action yourself, not just sitting and listening to how its all done. I enjoyed this course more than I can express in a short review, I learnt so much and feel it was well worth the investment into my future.

My team and I were really impressed with Paul’s videography course and feel like we have been equipped with the knowledge and skills to make our videos look more professional and cinematic. We covered so much, including camera settings, lighting, microphones, composition, gimbal usage, storytelling and so much more. Paul is friendly and polite and we all enjoyed learning from him. 2 Days absolutely flew by and we’d certainly recommend Paul to anybody hoping to improve their video making skills.
