FAQ’s
What Equipment & Skills Do I Need?
If you are bringing your own equipment for this course then you will need to be equipped properly to get the best results. You are very welcome to use our equipment should you not own your own.
We recommend:
– A long lens – 200mm+ to capture surfers and waves from on dry land. The longer the better!
– A wide Angle Lens – For dramatic seascape shots.
– Waterproof camera housing – If you wish to shoot in the ocean (and it is optional) then you will need a waterproof camera housing. You can pick these up for around £50.00 if you don’t own one, get in contact for our recommendations.
– A westsuit & swim fins – Again this is optional for if you’d like to shoot in the water, but if you do, you’ll need a wetsuit and some swim fins to keep you warm and help with speed in the ocean.
– A tripod – For those dreamy long exposure ocean shots.
Are You DBS Checked?
Paul is DBS checked and is happy to share a copy of his DBS certificate with any client, no matter whether they are a business, charity, organisation or individual.

Johnny Haines –
I’ve long wanted to try surf photography but didn’t really know where to start so was really pleased to find Paul’s course dedicated to the subject. Paul quickly assessed my current abilities and spent some time teaching me what I needed to know to capture images out in the water. We then put on our wetsuits, headed out into the sea and spent a lot of time photographing surfers which was so much fun. It’s certainly not easy though, taking images whilst the waves are crashing into you and it takes some getting used too, but Paul gave me lots of tips and tricks for how to handle it all and I came away enthused to go and buy my own equipment and get myself out in the water again. A fantastic course which I would recommend.
